The project is alive and it's being maintained.
My excuse for the current state of the web page.

The beta of version 2 can be downloaded from:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gtranslator/

There is an official deb package available for Debian experimental here:

http://packages.debian.org/experimental/gtranslator

and an official package for the next version of ubuntu (Jaunty) here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/gtranslator

There are also unofficial packages for ubuntu Intrepid here:

https://launchpad.net/~amrlima/+archive/ppa
