For anyone else having this problem, I found a workaround hack for the
time being:

Glib::PropertyProxy< Glib::RefPtr<Gsv::StyleScheme> >
    PropertyStyleScheme(
        MyStyleSchemeChooserWidget, 
        "style-scheme");
