All the 2.9x.x releases of gtkmm are unstable releases somewhere

any of them. To have a chance of success, you must find and use a
compatible version of gtk+. Which version of gtk+ did you use? Why
did you choose gtkmm 2.99.8?
I try a the most recent version of gtkmm because I have some crash
problems with VMware workstation and I have no idea of what happens.
Gtkmm 2.99.8 is a four year old development version of the 3.x version.
It's not very recent at all.
My problem: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/509414
Your crash log suggests that you're using GTK+ 2.24. Although the
version of gtkmm you're using contains 2.x in its name it's actually not
a version of gtkmm 2, it's what eventuelly became gtkmm 3 and is not
very useful.
If you want to try to build a new version of gtkmm, and I have no idea
if that will solve your problem with vmware, you should use gtkmm 2.24.
