Do you use the new Unity desktop? Hasn't the menubar disappeared from 
almost all windows? Not just from the applications you compile yourself?

The menubar of the active window appears in the panel at the top of the 
screen, but only when the mouse pointer hovers there. This is a feature 
I would rather call a bug, and one of the reasons I still use the Ubuntu 
classic desktop. It's reasonable when the active window is maximized, 
but not otherwise. If anyone knows how to disable this "feature", I 
would be glad to know.
