The reason I want to derive my own is to control the way the data is
stored internally. It will be loaded directly from an SQL query and with
a derivation I can avoid needlessly copying the data.

Nuts. I guess it's not that much work. Mostly just returning zero and
iterator(). Though going over the doxygen documentation I just noticed
that these functions are not pure virtual so I wonder what they actually
do un-overidden.
