PostgreSQL Connect Help

I am new to GUI and database connect programming.
I have been searching for an example for a solution on the Web for 
several weeks with no luck.
I have a PostgreSQL database, unixODBC, and libgnomedbmm.
The Data Source Properties in ODBC are as follows:
Name:          play
Driver:         PostgreSQL
Database:     playdb
Port:             5432
Protocol:      6.4
1- I need the lingnomedbmm connect string or connect statement.
2- Is unixODBC the correct way to interface libgnomedbmm to PostgreSQL?
