As I mailed you earlier, you could override the on_delete_event. See:

Under detailed description it notes: ...Override on_delete_event() to
stop this.
If you want to connect it to a signal use:
Glib::SignalProxy1<bool,GdkEventAny*> Gtk::Widget::signal_delete_event()
