Cairo is a (very nice) 2D vector graphics library, and yes it is
fairly recent. As of version 2.8 (I believe), GTK+ uses Cairo to do
most of it's drawing, etc. So it's now a dependency of GTK+. Did you
upgrade GTK+ recently?
