gtkmm mailing list archives filled with duplicate messages

Hi
I downloaded the archives of the message on teh mailing list to read with mutt
off line. Interesting each of the compressed mbox text files has multiple copies
of each letter - for instance Jan 2003 has 3 copies of each mail. same with as
many as i check.
is there an easy script to ourge these. it is on all the gnome mailing lists like
gtk-perl even gnome-users etc.
