Cairo looks like what im looking for

The problem is im making a multi user application, Its for a school
project so I would rather have extremely basic drawing functionality
and have a full understanding of the inner workings, rather than try to
integrate the multi user aspect to inkscape and have to spend a few
months trying to figure out all the aspects of the inner workings of
inkscape.
