Hello!

I am using gtkmm on a win32 platform.  Whenever I start a gtkmm  application,
the computer always also creates a console window.  Is there  anyway to have
the console window come up minimized?

If you use Visual Studio you can create a Windows application (notconsole, subsystem Windows). Then you can also set the window icon.
