Pixbuf question

the create_from_data() function docs say the data is RGB with 8bits per
sample.  Is that 8bits/pixel or 8bits per each R/G/B?  And if you have
an alpha channel, is that an additional 8bits (for total of 32?  or
16?)  Or what?
