Addition to my own post:
   What is asked for is not someone to do all the work, but someone to do 
the central coordination. If say, Murray, changed the proper m4-scripts and 
told everybody what to add to each file in a clean, recent cvs-tree, the 
rest of us could perform the bulk work and test it on windows.
