Do not do that. It is never necessary and will just ruin your system.
Try installing from the fedora rpms, as others have suggested. See the
download page on www.gtkmm.org.
And if you really want to install from source then try a recent version
- gtkmm 2.2.9. Come back to us if you have problems with that.
