[gtkmm] DrawingArea and ColorSelection

I am having trouble having a Gtk::DrawingArea widget and a
Gtk::ColorSelection widget in the same dialog. (This extends to having a
Gtk::DrawingArea widget in the dialog, and then trying to open a
Gtk::ColorSelection dialog from there, which was what I first endeavored to
do.) An assertion: nqueue->freeze_count > 0, seems to be giving the
trouble.
Is this an understood phenomenon? I am writing the code on a windows
machine using dev-cpp.
