Oh, i tried to use that too now, really, the add and remove buttons appears...
Do you already try the class Gtk::FileChooser? I think you can derive a class 
from that... it's a virtual constructor, and FileChooserDialog and 
FileChooserWidget use that, maybe you can implement another...
