[gtkmm] scary bugs fixed, not scary

This bug was worrying me for a while, like all lifetime bugs do. But the fix
was simple and it was nothing fundamental:

I was worried that this STL-style API bug was something fundamental, but I
investigated and found that it's also a one-off - there are comments about
that in 2.4. This one had to be fixed only in 2.4, but I don't think that's
a big deal:
