My distro (slackware-current) uses gcc-3.2.3.  gtkmm-2.2.3 compiles, but
has runtime errors with pixtext treeviewcolumns.  There is a patch available to 
make my compiler work, but I doubt it would fix your issue.

Murray hinted that there was a patch to fix your problem as well, but I don't
know anything about that one.

Probably none, since the last time I tried to compile gnomemm (the c++ 
wrappers for the gnome libs) I went through dependency hell... even
after getting orbit-cpp from CVS, I never succeeded in getting libbonobouimm
to compile.  So I doubt there is anything which would break by installing
gcc-3.2.3 or below, and using that for gtkmm.
