[gtkmm] ./configure --enable-static +++ bug?

hi,

i tried to install the gtkmm librarys on Redhat 9.0 with the following 
options:

$ ./configure --prefix=/scratch/andy/software/ --disable-shared 
--enable-static
$ make
$ make install

but there where no static librarys ( xxx.a ) after make. Is this a bug? 
or what did i wrong?
