I have created a new git branch called 'cairo-alpha'.
This branch has Lars-Peter's patches applied.

Thanks to Lars-Peter for doing the work.

In the future with newer versions of GTK+, we will need to switch to 
Lars-Peter's work.

It was reported that certain types of rendering are slower using cairo, 
hopefully we can address this problem and switch to the cairo branch in 
the future.
