Re: Gtk3 on Windows

I wasn't really implying anything, just trying to clarify what might
happen if you already had an existing Strawberry install (i.e. the
zipfile installs on top of the existing install) so as to try and
minimize confusion and issues for end-users.

Correct. I guess you could play with paths etc to have 2 installations
co-exist. To answer what you're implying ( or what I think you are ), yes it
would be good to have *just* the gtk stuff that you could drop into an
existing Strawberry Perl installation, but that would be difficult at this
point. The installation process included removing quite a few pieces of
Strawberry Perl and rebuilding them. I could use a diff tool to figure out
what's changed from a 'base' installation and try to package things from
there, but it's not clear what effect these rebuilt components would have on
things other people might be using. Anyway, I'm open to suggests etc. I'm in
the process of setting up a wiki detailing the build instructions. Then I'll
submit patches to try to reduce the size of the wiki & complexity of the
installation process. If there is enough interest, I guess 'we' can work on
packaging just the gtk components. Let's see how many users there are.
That's one good thing about hosting the download - I can see how many
downloads there are ( unlike cpan for example ).

In other words, this would replace an existing Strawberry Perl install?

Hi all.

As I mentioned previously, I was interested in posting a bounty to "make
stuff compile" on Windows. I've done this, and the developer has given
binaries, patches, and detailed build instructions :)

So now I'm happy to announce the 1st version of Gtk3-Perl support on
Windows. It's based on the latest version of Strawberry Perl &
and has a bunch of other things I needed built which I knew would be
difficult ( DBD::ODBC ). A 150MB binary is available at:

There are a couple of visual issues. Lots of icons don't render ( using
stock names ), but *some* do. There is even a 'broken icon' thing for
little arrow in combo boxes, which looks bad. Also the default Gtk3
which is now included across all platforms and which I was getting
about doesn't really look the same as on Linux. It's on off-colour which
"not so excited" about, and things ... hmmm ... it's hard to describe
but it's not the same as on Linux. Anyway I assume most these things are
relatively easily fixable - I'm just throwing it out there in case
can immediately say "oh yeah this is because of xyz".

As time permits, I'll upload his very good documentation, and everything
else involved. At this point, I'm concentrating on repeating his
process, so
we can continue to build later versions.

If people want to test and report issues back to the list, the guy has
offered to support any build-related issues for a reasonable period of
