Hello,
What is the recommended way to get the application (and more
specificallycommand) incharge of handling a particular mimetype?
To have something that should not only run with Gnome but also with other
environment such as XFCE, there is a tool provided by the Portland initiative,
xdg-open:
http://portland.freedesktop.org/wiki/
You won't get the command line, but you will be able to directly execute the
application with a file, if that fits your needs.
I don't know if there is a Perl module doing the same thing. But if your final
goal is the execution, it does a nice job.
I hope this helps,
Tian.
