I referred zentara here from perlmonks. I did not dig deep enough then. I
think the problem is one or more bugs in Xterm. If you google
xterm keyboard focus
it seems that there lots of reports of focus issues. You might want to try
newer or older versions and/or turning on autofocus.

Well I was checking out the rxvt-unicode program
at http://software.schmorp.de/pkg/rxvt-unicode
and it had some example Gtk2 Perl scripts, with an
embedded rxvt, in which keyboard focus worked.
The exact same scripts would not work with xterm,
and was wondering if anyone knows why?
