liststore weirdness

Hello again,

I came across this when I noticed my keybindings (Ctrl+F, etc) quit working:

Open up the liststore example from gtk-examples, and try typing
anything - a small text entry box opens up in the lower right-hand
corner.

(kind of cut-off, but you get the drift).

I thought it was just part of my keybindings problem (which I still
have not found the solution to), but the text box opens in the example
as well.
Is this supposed to be there?
