Perhaps it's overkill, but Gnome2 provides an About dialog and a
generic url-launching facility, as well as a way to play notification
sounds, and Gnome2::GConf would alleviate your need to parse and write
a config file. I have a hunch that you could also use Gnome2::VFS to
fetch favicons for the sites to display in the menu.
