Panel applets with Gtk2-Perl and Gnome2

Is is possible to develop panel applets using the Gnome2 and Gtk2 bindings in 
their current state? There's not a lot of info in the Gnome2 man pages, and the 
only tutorials I can find are on Gtk2, and don't cover Gnome2 at all.
