Gtk-Perl-0.7009 problems (dvd::rip)

I've been trying to compile dvd::rip for the past 2 days with no
success. All the problems seem to circle around Perl. I've tried both
versions 5.8.1 and 5.6.1, Gtk-Perl-0.7008 and 0.7009, all resulting in
nothing. I have gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0 installed correctly. Here's the error
message that I receive:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target `build/perl-gtk-ref.pod', needed by

make: *** [subdirs] Error 2

I read a post saying to try "make pure_install" which seemed to make the
error messages go away, but dvd::rip still considers the install
incomplete. These lines appear in the text after "perl Makefile.PL" but
I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Using provided pod file 'build/perl-gtk-ref.pod' because you probably
don't have
the XML::parser and/or XML::Writer modules
The documentation for this module may not be up to date.
cp: cannot stat `perl-gtk-ref.pod': No such file or directory
