i have ported this example to gtk2-perl, and included it and supporting code
in CVS.  try it out, and any other code you can think of, and let me know how
it works.  i doubt it's complete, and i doubt it's bug-free; but the gtk2-perl
version of examples/testdnd.pl acts on my machine just like the gtk-perl one
does, so i think there might be bugs in the test app.
