it's not up to your app to decide that --- gnome keeps this as a
"system"-wide preference.
you can find the gnome browser pref in gconf at
/desktop/applications/browser
or in the "preferred applications" tool in gnome-control-center.
more properly, GnomeHref calls gnome_url_show when you click on it:
