but, more importantly, if you *did* run genmaps, you'll get a maps file 
which does not include GnomeVFSURI, and which thus will not trigger 
even the correct version of Gtk2::CodeGen to generate typemaps for it.

genmaps.pl is a maintainer-only tool, not meant for users.  perhaps we 
should remove them from the MANIFESTs?
