It seems that URI for this branch is wrong, I get this error now:
*** Checking out gtk-engines *** [38/39]
git clone git://git.gnome.org/gtk-engines-2-22
Cloning into gtk-engines-2-22...
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Hi John,
just had a chance to check on the GTK 2.x "modulesets" branch again, started a build from start this
morning.
Unfortunately, gtk-engines won't build, configure fails with:
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GTK... no
configure: error: GTK+-3.0 is required to compile gtk-engines
*** Error during phase configure of gtk-engines: ########## Error running ./autogen.sh --prefix
/Users/helix/gtk/inst *** [38/39]
Heh. Looks like it's been that ways for 6 years, too. Shows how much the themes modules get used. I've
changed the branch on gtk-engines to 2-22, the last one before master was changed to support/require gtk+-3.0.
