GTKGLArea for OS X?

Hi gtk+-experts!
I have been trying to use the gtk+ GTKGLArea widget on OS X El Capitan — that did not work, and doing some 
research revealed that it may not yet be
supported on OS X. Is there ongoing development in that direction?
