Do you see any error messages on the console where you run your program? What OS are you using? What version of GTK+ are you using?

I downloaded http://win32builder.gnome.org/gtk+-bundle_3.6.4-20130921_win32.zip and unzip it on windows XP, then gtk3-demo can be run without any problems.
