Of course, now it seems logical to me also. What a silly question I've sent. I suppose I was blind by the idea that I wanted to get rid of the delimiters, thus not thinking of what they mean for the function, despite they are clearly called "delimiters" and if they delimit an empty string, the result must be an empty string.
Thanks for the eye-opening. Maybe I should do more rubber duck debugging[1] or stop programming or something. Sorry.
