Gtk+ 3.0 problem on 64-bit Linux

Before I actually start looking for an answer, maybe someone else
already has one.

The hello-world example on OpenSuSE 11.4 64-bit doesn't work. I haven't
looked at it in any detail, but it almost looks like events aren't being
propagated. The button never gets focus, and none of the user-added
signals are ever called.
In another simple example I wrote, the "draw" signal on a GtkDrawingArea
gets called, but none of the other user-added signals ever get called.
Everything works fine on OpenSuSE 11.4 32-bit.
