"upping" a thread might be common on so-called on-line forums, but on
a mailing list it only makes you look silly and make people angry.

If nobody answered your question that is probably because it was such
a vague or trivial question that people feel you need to at least try
to solve it yourself. Have a look at sample code, read documentation,
etc.
