how to configure tree views, lists to be vertically more compact

I am sometimes using Eclipse on Linux, but the various lists and tree views 
have unnecessary big vertical gaps between rows, so less rows can be 
displayed and thus overview is reduced.

In windows Eclipse lists/tree views are very compact in contrast, as far as I 
remember.

Is there a way to configure that? I am using OpenSUSE 10.2
