no .pc files for gtk+ install

Hi, I built and installed gtk+ on my suse 9.1 system,
 but it didn't install .pc files in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
 (where there is glib-2.0.pc, pango.pc and others
from the same family). libgtk-x11-2.0.so is 
in /usr/local/lib.

 my question is: is there something wrong? I'm having
 problems building other packages because they think
 gtk+-2.0 isn't installed.
