GTK enables Hot Keys ?

Hi guys !!

i'm needing to port an application from Dos/Win to Linux.

It's a Borland/BGI graphics and i want to convert it to Gtk.

My biggest question is:  the application is a "Hot-Key" program, it 
manages user keyboard typing, checking pressed keys just at the keying 
time (no Enter-key needing), rejects some keys and recognize others as 
Function keys..

Can i do this with GTK+/GDK ? If so how ?
