[GTK+-2.0] gtk get date ??

Hi all :-)

Is it possible to get the current date with gtk functions ?
Is there something like gdk_get_time (NULL); which returns the current time, 
but for returning the current date ?

My purpose is to make a dynamic label, which is field with  the current date 
everytime I open the widget.
