This is not a gtk problem , it's because your X server doesn't permit connection from your machine try as root " xhost + xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx " where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your ip address .. if you are not on a network then ip=127.0.0.1 (your loopback interface) . Finally you can ssh root your machine and run the app from there , if your /etc/ssh/ssh.conf has AllowX11Forwarding=Yes
