GTK is easy to install

Hi, I've been reading the very long thread "why is gtk install so
difficult?", and I'd like to add my own comments. I've been building
GTK for quite a while now, on both a desktop machine and cross compiling
onto embedded devices, and I'd like to say that for a program of GTK's
size it is one of the easiest programs I have ever built.

Maybe what is needed is a FAQ for building programs with the GNU
autobuild tools. I could write one that would only be a few hundred
words at most (preferably smaller) that could describe the problems and
solutions that everyone on this list has had problems with.

I could address

--help (The most important option)
--prefix
ld-config
PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH
pkg-config
PKG_CONFIG_PATH
--x-includes=	(I saw this come up in an earlier post)
--x-libraries=
--enable-feature, etc.

then maybe a small section on cross compiling, and pkg building
problems with configure scripts on cross compiling
dev. pkg. vs. runtime pkg.
--build
--host
--target (not really gtk related)
DESTDIR, --prefix

Does anyone have any other ideas of what to add?

Please CC me on any reply, since I'm on the digest version of this list,
and I won't get list e-mails immediately.
