OK. I think you will find that 11.20 is supposed evaporate rather
quickly, so you should be able to bump your build system to 11.22
shortly.

Hmm, perhaps that explains why on 11.11, even with the PKG_CONFIG_PATH
and PKG_CONFIG (I may have gotten some of the names wrong) and with
setting CPPFLGS and LDFLAGS for the config I still get that pesky
error on png.
Will the gtk folks be accepting your configure script changes?

I'll try your sources on my 11.11 system and see how it goes with the
