annoyance compiling pango cvs at make install

When I compile latest cvs of pango the make install stops waiting for
user input refering to all the /usr/lib/libpango*la files asking if I
want to overwrite them - why is this happening?
The make process itself is creating them so there are not any old files
lying around.
