Sorry about this being off topic.

Does anyone know of a good place i could find some information about 
saving/restoring user preferences?  

Simply put, I need some C code to read the user's file and make what's 
in the file variable in my gtk program.

Currently I could save with the fopen and such commands but i am having 
trouble with reading the variables back in.
