another clist signal question

one more clist question - 

when i press the "down arrow", the selected row of my clist doesn't
change.

instead, an "outlined box" moves down from the selected item.  i can
scroll the clist using the up/down arrows, but the currently selected
row doesn't change.

is there a way to bind the selected row to the arrow?  so that pressing
the down arrow will move the selected row down by one.

i'm looking at "signal prototypes" in the gtk API, and i'm not seeing
anything appropriate.
