can I copy a Pixmap region ?

Hy. I 'm copying a pixmap over another pixmap , and  I wish store the 
overlaped region , how can I do it ?

I'm using now.

gdk_draw_pixmap(background_pixmap,copy_gc,pixmap,               
0,0,x,y,width,height);

and I wish make  a pixmap copying form backgroud_pixmap x,y,widht,height 
before the gdk_draw_pixmap() function...
