GTK2 and gettext

It seems to me that glib innow REQUIRES the use of
GNU gettext, which is covered under GPL.  

If that's true, then GTK2 can no longer be used 
for commercial software development.  

Is this intentional?

Am I missing something?  Is there a way to use glib/GTK2 without
GNU gettext?
