Hello,
I've never programmed DirectX, so I can't offer any guidance
on that. A friend of mine where I used to work says it nice,
but he's in love with the Windows OS, so apply that accordingly.
I'm not sure what you mean by a huge amount of GUI. Are you
stating that the GUI takes up (wastes) a lot of space, or that
there are a lot of different widgets (menus, buttons, trees,
etc., available?
As far as skins (themes), YES. I finally saw this work on my
Windows 98SE box, using the "Jade Auction" software, that a
nice guy named Todd wrote about in the gimp-win "Yahoo" group.
I'm seeing an unexplained crash now and then, but I am not sure
if has anything to with GTK+ yet. I love the look, feel, and
capabilities of GTK+, and the fact that I can develop a GUI
in GTK+ and compile/run it on Windows, LINUX, and potentially
a myriad of other operating systems. All of this, from ONE
code base, is really a sweet offering.
I'm not yet finished with my GUI, so I can't really speak too
much about performance, and reliability yet. I used VC++ for
many projects in the past, and 1.5 years recently, until I
got layed off. I noticed I had to "program around" a lot of
things that I shouldn't have. I only have experience up to 6.0,
and your post informed me of the 7.0 version availability.
I suspect that if you download the GTK+ runtime (2.0.9 is
what I installed, until 2.2 binaries become available soon).
Then install the "Gimp" (GNU Image Manipulation Program", and
be prepared to be "blown away", if it runs like it does on
LINUX. GTK+ was developed originally for Gimp, and GTK
actually stands for the "Gimp Took Kit"!
Note that I am not affiliated with Microsoft or the GTK+
effort, just felt like helping someone out, by offering my
perspective on things. And hopefully freeing up the time of
the developers, by not having to respond to this themselves.
I'd be very curious as to what other folks with more GTK+
experience and knowlege have to say though...
Later, and best of luck in all your efforts, _John_
Hi,
I need to develop an application and therefore need a GUI that suits the
following needs. I have hardly any expiriencwith Linux and don't have it
installed.
- win32 fullscreen / directx preferably
- skinnable (as far as I'm concerned it should be (Themes) but I'm not
sure)
is gtk the right for me? I've checked on everything else I've required. But
the question stands: With VC 6.0/7.0, will I be able to develop a
fullscreen application that uses a huge amound of GUI? And if you could
give me some guidelines/hints, they're welcome (on GTK or if you know about
any other GUI that might do)
Thanks a lot
