Can you tell us about the system that you are trying to compile
this on? The error seems to indicate that no gettext() was found, but
in that case, configure is supposed to tell you:
*** You must have either have gettext support in your C library, or use the
*** GNU gettext library. (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/gettext.html
And fail.
